You know? I really have no real idea why I blog… well… no real definite reason or reasons that I could explain…
… however, this chap has a few clear reasons why he does…
Interesting…

Welcome back, Alex!
Well rested and re-energized I hope. Anything noteworthy on the job search?
My reason for blogging: my wife coerced me a bit.
She’s blogged for a long time, and I’ve always been the “Tech Guy” behind (most of the time, with occasional guest appearances) the scenes keeping things looking and working the way she wants them to (she’d benefit enormously from the mythic DWIM interface in place of a GUI — Do What I Mean).
She kept telling me I should start a blog, that I know a lot of things about, well, a lot of things and that some people might find it interesting for me to write about them.
I remain unconvinced of this argument, but I took the plunge and started blogging anyway; primarily for two reasons (besides the obvious one of stopping the nagging, er, persuasive suggestions from the better half):
1) I was trying to help out someone who was trying to get his new podcast’s RSS feed working on FeedBurner, and getting frustrated because he couldn’t get his problem clearly understood on the support forums there — as a result, the answers he was getting were not helping solve his problem. I felt badly about his situation, as I could see the frustration he was feeling, so I offered to help him resolve the problem.
Since he was using a WordPress.com blog to host the podcast shownotes, and I only had experience with the TypePad blogging service, I signed up for a WordPress.com blog in order to better diagnose his problem. Having managed to sort his problem and get his podcast’s feed working with FeedBurner, I was left with the blog and felt a bit obliged to make use of it.
2) As I am also in the midst of a job search, I thought it might be useful to blog about it and also to use it as a way of networking to get my CV seen by a wider audience. I also had a few sources suggest using a blog to do this, so I concluded that we couldn’t all be wrong about it being better than not doing it at all…
So, there are my reasons for blogging. I am the first to be surprised when anyone reads what I write; whether anyone does or not, I suppose that now I’ve been posting for a while, I’ll more or less keep at it…
Best of luck on the job search! There’s some news of how mine is going over on my blog.
Keep up the good work!!!

Hi Rob and jcbiggar1 – many thanks for your comments.
Rob, many thanks for your reasons for blogging… very interesting and many thanks for sharing.
Nope, nothing noteworthy yet on the job search… not yet… although I’m very optimistic and might have news very soon.
I needed time out to concentrate all my efforts into the job hunting and I think that it may have paid off.
Good luck with your hunting too… it’s only a matter of time.
Once again many thanks for taking the time to leave a comment…
Yep… me too… I’m also “surprised when anyone reads what I write”…
Kind regards
Thanks, Alex — I’ve got a few prospects on the go at the moment; seems it never rains but it pours… so I’m also feeling — guardedly — optimistic.
Best of luck!
Hi Rob.
